The National Congress of Black Women, Incorporated (NCBW), proudly hosted its 39th Annual Awards Brunch during the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference weekend, September 24-28, bringing together leaders, advocates, and change-makers from across the country for a morning of inspiration, recognition, and unity. This year’s theme was “The Renaissance: A Time for Reflection, Reconnection and Recommitment.” The energy in the venue was unmatched!
This year’s brunch was held at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center and continued the powerful tradition of honoring the trailblazing women and allies who shape our communities and influence policy both locally and on a national level. The program showcased an extraordinary lineup of inspiring speakers and distinguished honorees. NCBW presented its signature awards to individuals who embody visionary leadership, community service, and steadfast advocacy. Jotaka Eaddy, founder of #WinWithBlackWomen, delivered a powerful keynote address and received the Pinnacle of Excellence Award. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), Maryland’s first African-American woman senator, served as the special guest speaker and was honored with the Visionary Leadership Award. All in attendance were moved by the words of the always dynamic Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) as she received the Trailblazer Award. The Mayor of Oakland, Calif., Barbara Lee, was recognized and proudly accepted the Shirley Chisholm Award. NCBW’s highest honor, the Founder’s Award, was bestowed upon Judge Doris Smith-Ribner (Ret.) in recognition of her steadfast dedication and contributions to NCBW. These dynamic women all exemplify what leadership, vision, and sisterhood look like in action.
Each of the honorees represented the strength, brilliance, and resilience of Black women. Their leadership reflects the spirit of NCBW’s mission, ensuring that Black women are seen, heard, and have a seat at every decision-making table.
The National Congress of Black Women, Incorporated, founded in 1984, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the educational, political, economic, and cultural advancement of African-American women and their families.
