About Cheryl Pepsii Riley
Brooklyn-born singer Cheryl Pepsii Riley made her initial splash in the music business as one of the lead singers for the group Stargaze. After scoring her first solo hit with “Thanks for My Child” in 1988, Riley hit the R&B and pop charts repeatedly during the ‘80s and ‘90s. She came on just as strong in her second act, embracing her love for theater by starring and co-starring in several touring stage plays—and, most notably, in Tyler Perry’s theatrical plays and films. This led her to recording for soundtracks, and eventually back to her solo musical career. She created her popular Black Velvet Mondays series to provide a positive, nurturing, and inspiring musical experience she could share with other artists and live music lovers. It’s where we all grow in community, she says, and where performance meets purpose!
