Dawn Robinson, former singer for En Vogue, Lucy Pearl, and The Firm, revealed on her YouTube channel on March 11, 2025 that she has been unhoused and living in her car for nearly three years.

So how does a performer who helped a dynamic and iconic girl group reportedly sell over 20 million records get in this situation?

Robinson explains in a video titled, “Your New Life is in the Scary ,” that she, like millions of other Americans, experienced hard times during the pandemic. She had been living with her parents, but that situation fell through. 

Then, her former co-manager convinced the powerful singer to move back to Los Angeles, but instead of helping her secure an apartment, she says he kept renting hotel rooms for her. 

With her frustration mounting, Robinson began to research what it is like to live in one’s car. She says she was surprised to realize that she could easily adapt to car-living culture. From there, Robinson became one of the tens of thousands of people who are unhoused in L.A.

Robinson revealed that she showers at a gym where she is a member.

Her ex-boyfriend’s mom, personal assistant Niecy, her brother Evin, and Klymaxx singer Joyce Irby are the people who have been her greatest supporters, she said in the video. 

However, she admonished her sister for wronging her in the past. It’s not known whether the bad blood between the siblings contributed to the perceived issues between Robinson and her parents.

Considering Robinson’s En Vogue legacy and that Lucy Pearl’s self-titled album, their one and only album, was certified platinum when it was released, it’s unclear how her predicament came about, but it was undoubtedly a combination of factors.

Robinson was once married to actor and musician Dre Allen, and she has no children.
