Karen Huger was taken into police custody, once again, after officially being sentenced today in a Montgomery County Circuit Court to two years in prison, with one year suspended, for her drunk driving case.
The “Grand Dame” of The Real Housewives of Potomac will also have to serve five years probation for the single vehicle crash into a street sign in March 2024. Body camera footage from her arrest at the scene and her interrogation showed Huger visibly intoxicated and slurring her words. Along with invoking the names of Bravo boss Andy Cohen and Abraham Lincoln, Huger also said she was Thomas Jefferson’s concubine and referenced her wealth in comparison to that of the law enforcement officer who was interviewing her.
According to People, Huger was officially charged with a DUI and DWI, negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life, and person. Police also charged her with recklessly driving a vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for the safety of persons and property.
Huger’s other charges were failure to control vehicle speed on the highway to avoid a collision, driving a vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed on the highway, driving a vehicle on the highway with suspended registration, and failure to notify administration of change of address within 30 days.
The prosecutor noted in filings that this was Huger’s fourth alcohol-related traffic case. She was previously found guilty for driving while impaired in one case and found guilty for driving under the influence in another.
Ray Huger, Karen’s husband of 28 years, reported to the scene in which Karen wrapped her Maserati around a street sign and attempted to make sense of what she was telling the police. He was also by her side today when she was sentenced and taken into custody.
“Love you, Ray,” yelled Karen as she was taken into custody, reports Taria S. Faison, host of the What Else is Going On Podcast who attended the sentencing trial. “God’s got you. You’ll be alright. God bless you.”
Karen has 30 days to appeal the judge’s decision and 90 days to ask the judge to reconsider his order. However, attorney Symone Redwine, whom you may recognize from season 3 of OWN’s Ready to Love, broke down why she would advise Karen to wait the days allotted before appealing the judge’s decision and asking them to reconsider.
