“My intent from day one was to keep the nature of it as a sport. I don’t care how motherf–ers look at it as far as like a collaborative effort. That’s cool too, but I love when artists grit they teeth.”

“I still watch battle raps, I still watch Smack URL, from Murda Mook to Lux to Tay Roc, my bro Daylyt. This has always been the core definition of who I am. It’s been that way since day one, so I don’t think it was just a thing for this year. It was always a continuum.”

– Kendrick Lamar shared with Ebro and Nadeska Alexis on Apple Music why he engaged in the “sport” of battle rap with Drake and whether he’s hung up his battle mic for good. Fresh off his Grammy Award wins for “Not Like Us,” the first battle rap song to win a Grammy, Kendrick will take the stage on Sunday, February 9 for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. SZA will definitely perform with Dot, and Tyler the Creator is suspected to join them based on a teaser released for the performance. See the interview below.
