“Last night @kimmelscomedyclub, it was difficult to get on stage and bring laughter in such a dark time,” Kym Whitley captioned an Instagram reel posted on Jan. 13, 2025. “We laughed together. We cried together and we talked about what is next. Met a lot of people on (their) way to help #losangeles.”
January 12 marked the second week of “KYM WHITLEY LIVE IN VEGAS,” the comedian’s aptly named Las Vegas residency, at Jimmy Kimmel Comedy Club. This moment has likely been bittersweet, as the Los Angeles resident and tens of thousands of other people are affected by the California fires.
The multitalented entertainer kicked off her residency on January 5, and will perform every Sunday and Monday at 9:30 p.m. at Jimmy Kimmel Comedy Club through February. The show highlights Whitley’s “unique blend of humor and storytelling.”
“This isn’t just another stand-up gig; it’s an unfolding narrative that invites you into my world,” said the award-winning comedian in a release. “In comedy clubs like this, laughter becomes our shared language — a way to reflect on life with courage and joy.”

While back in California, Whitley has been praising the firefighters, other first responders, and pilots who are helping contain and, hopefully and eventually, extinguish the fires. Fortunately, she, her son Joshua, and their pets are safe.

In addition to sharing her talents on the stage as a standup comedian and appearing on the screen in productions such as Next Friday and Curb Your Enthusiasm, Whitley is also an award-winning podcaster. She co-hosts Two Funny Mamas, which has won two NAACP Image Awards, with Sherri Shepherd. In addition, she collaborated with Lena Waithe to create Audible’s KYM podcast series, which has been receiving Signal Award excellence-in-storytelling nods.
The author of the erotic novel The Delusion of Cinderella has certainly been honing her storytelling skills throughout her career and her Vegas residency is another example of the legacy she’s building among the giants of comedy.
