Yasiin Bey, who formerly went by the moniker Mos Def, is returning to rap as part of a new duo comprised of himself and producer The Alchemist, called Forensics.
It’s been five years since Bey has released any new solo music and nearly a decade and a half since he released an official album, according to WBLS. So just knowing he would return to give fans new music would be enough to get them excited, but add legendary producer The Alchemist into the mix and you have one of the most anticipated albums of the year. Oh, did I fail to mention there’s a new album coming this month? C’mon, you knew there was an album coming.
In an Instagram post featuring Anuar Khalifi‘s “The Weight of an Ant” earlier this month, MC5 Agency not only announced the formation of Forensics, but also revealed the group will premiere new music from their debut album during a private premier party in Paris on Jan. 25, 2025.

MC5 played coy in the post, so no further information on the album is available, except that it’s due this year. In addition, Bey is notoriously anti-stream, so it’s likely this album will be available through a direct-to-consumer purchase only.
Bey and Alchemist released new music late last year, a track titled “Kijani,” but it’s unclear whether they will feature the song on the album. For now, we’ll just have to settle for the unofficial video for the song.
And Bey recently shared a new track “Money Christmas” on Instagram.
