Disney is celebrating National Gumbo Day by sharing its own gumbo recipe from Tiana’s Palace, a quick-service restaurant in New Orleans Square at Disneyland Park. (Psst, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction is slated to open Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in 2024.)

Savory and full of flavor, gumbo is a uniquely American dish with roots in Southwest Louisiana. Disneyland Chef Toby Hollis and Disneyland Park Operations Manager Lindell Skinner discussed, in the video below, why gumbo is such a popular dish at Tiana’s Palace while Hollis demonstrates how to prepare it. Stella Chase, the daughter of Leah Chase who was one of the inspirations for Disney Animation’s Princess Tiana, also shared a special message about what gumbo means to her and her family.
Princess Tiana believes art should be enjoyed by everyone, so she was inspired by the murals and other works of art throughout New Orleans to adorn the entry areas of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure with art. Hailing from the vibrant state of Louisiana, artist Malaika Favorite included the essence of the state’s heritage within a masterpiece that guests will admire while queuing to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is inspired by the animated film The Princess and the Frog. Favorite’s mural for the attraction features a collage of scenes, highlighting Tiana’s professional journey and the creation of Tiana’s Foods, that are displayed on two of the building’s exterior walls.
