Uptown Netflix Bevelations They Cloned Tyrone

On June 30, Netflix hosted Bevelations Live and partnered with Lemon Pepper Wet event brand for a Down South-style party to celebrate the release of They Cloned Tyrone, at the Chicory in New Orleans during the highly anticipated Essence Fest.

Bevelations podcaster Bevy Smith hosted Survival of the Thickest cast members Michelle Buteau and Tasha Smith, as well as The Upshaws star Kim Fields for a lively panel discussion. Survival of the Thickest is based on Buteau’s acclaimed book of essays, and the scripted comedy “centers on Mavis Beaumont (Buteau). Black, plus-size, and newly single (not by her choice!), Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist. She’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body positive attitude, and a cute V-neck with some lip gloss.” It will be released on July 13 on Netflix.

Fields, Mike Epps, Wanda Sykes, and other cast members will return for The Upshaws on August 17. According to Netflix, “the Upshaws continue to ride life’s ups and downs, including new jobs, bigger dreams, health struggles, and some major life surprises but (are) still hanging on with the love that comes with family.”

Later that night, it was time to party in celebration of They Cloned Tyrone, a sci-fi comedy in which a series of eerie events have an unlikely trio – John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, and Teyonah Parris – at its center. Slick Charles (Foxx), Fontaine (Boyega), and Yo-Yo (Parris) are investigating a nefarious government conspiracy happening directly beneath their hood. First, neighborhood drug dealer Fontaine is killed, but he wakes up the next morning alive to his surprise. They begin exploring the incident and their search leads them to a huge government-backed lab that does experiments on the Black people. They Cloned Tyrone lands on Netflix on July 21.

NOLA Hip-Hop icons Juvenile and Mannie Fresh got revelers backin’ dat ass up, and Sherri Shepherd, Derek J, Big Krit, and Terrence J. were among the attendees of the Netflix events. See photos from the Lemon Pepper Wet party in the gallery below.
