“Love is in the details of everything I do…especially events” says Kiwan Michael Anderson.
For the past 6 1/2 years, the events & sponsorships lead at luxury brand OMEGA Watches has worked on such programs as the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, PGA Championships, America’s Cup, and The James Bond franchise. The Brooklyn-born, Bermuda-raised Hofstra University grad's career began very to flourish early on with PR and Event management stints at The Source Magazine and Nike Communications where he worked on Moet Hennessy brands setting him up for his dream job at OMEGA. The brand ambassador recently sat down with US to discuss lessons learned, his last fun purchase and dining in Brooklyn.
REFLECTIONS: Hometown: Brooklyn, NY * Age: 34 * First Job: PR Assistant at Arista Records.* Advice he would have given himself 10 years ago: “Always be comfortable in your own skin and live fearlessly.” * Most valuable life lesson: “Make sure you let the people you care about know exactly how you feel about them before it’s too late.” * Most valuable life business lesson: “No matter how hard it may seem, always be honest with yourself and your team. Your integrity is all you have in business. Once it’s gone, your career is over.” *Words to live by: “What other people think about you is none of your business!” * Working on currently: Producing events around the new James Bond film, Skyfall, and the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 17 which was the last lunar landing for the U.S. I’m also planning some big golf initiatives for 2013.
DIVERSIONS: Reading: “Conversations with God” by Neale Donald Walsch. * Last fun purchase: A new Apple TV console. I can now watch something on any device at home and airplay it directly to my TV wirelessly. Pretty cool. * Recently Discovered: The one and only gun range in NYC. The facility was in middle of Chelsea in a non-descript building. I went for my birthday this year to learn how to fire a pistol.
PLAYING FAVORITES: Hotel: Ivory Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic * Getaway: Bermuda: it’s a short trip from NYC and I get to see all my family and friends there. My favorite place on earth. * Entrée to order: Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken with green mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach from Luz in Brooklyn. It will change your life. * Place to meet friends for drinks: The Standard Hotel in Meatpacking District. * Last time I went out I ordered: Peri Prawns from Madiba in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn
