Sky-View Sips

Summer cocktails are great, but they’re even better with a view

Why grab a drink indoors when you can indulge in your favorite cocktail and take in a breathtaking view from a rooftop bar? Add these seasonal bars to your list of summer drinking destinations.

New York: Trump Bar d’Eau (opens May 25)

Sip your favorite drink under the sunset and the flashing city lights at New York’s Bar d'Eausituated on Trump Soho’s rooftop. Set to open May 25, the bar offers the perfect environment for a summer day—cabanas, bocce ball courts, and a cascading waterfall over a 6,000-square-foot pool deck--open to hotel guests in the a.m. and the public in the early evening (weekends from 6-11 p.m).This summer, Bar d’Eau is serving Moët Ice Imperial, the first-ever champagne designed to be enjoyed over ice. This signature sip complements delish small bites such as angus beef sliders and spicy tuna tartare. Of course, Bar d'Eau wouldn’t live up to the Trump name without an indoor space embellished with a drippy chandelier. Memorable summer nights are sure to ensue. 246 Spring St. 212. 842.5500.

Chicago: ROOF on theWit (Now open)

Rooftop fun shouldn’t be limited to the summer--at least that’s what the folks at theWit believe. Earlier this month the swanky downtown Chicago hotel unveiled the new and improved ROOF on theWit bar featuring a retractable glass roof, which means later nights and year-round fun. Despite all the changes, tasty menu options such as roasted artichokes with almonds and tuna crudo remain. Guests can indulge in hibiscus margaritas or mellow out with wine from the Eurocentric wine list. Late nights can get quite amped 27 stories up, so if you're not a fan of Scandal-like affairs,  opt for an after-work drink. 201 N. State St. 312.239.9501

Washington, D.C.: The Liaison Capitol Hill (Now open)

Whether you’re a site-seeing tourist seeking refuge from big crowds or a power-suited workaholic needing to unwind, Capitol Hill’s only open-air rooftop bar will definitely meet your needs. The seasonal venue features handcrafted specialty drinks and quick eats. Guests are welcome to lounge by the pool all day, while non-guests can wait until after 5 p.m. or nab a day pass. 415 New Jersey Ave. N.W. 202.638.1616.
