Rock Star

New app helps select the perfect diamond

He's finally ready to put a ring on it, but it seems the only numbers he's concerned about are your ring size and his budget. You know, however, that when it comes to a girl's best friend, it's the 4C's that are most important: color, cut, clarity, and carat.

So before he brings home a ring to slip on your finger, slip this neat little app onto his iPad or iPhone. The Gemological Institute of America's new 4C’s app is the only interactive tool that educates consumers on how to grade diamonds based upon color, cut, clarity, and carat weight, as well as pricing. It also allows you to explore the D-to-Z color scale, spot blemishes and inclusions, and compare sizes. Additional features include the “My Diamond Wish List,” which lets you keep track of the diamonds you've seen, and an interactive GIA Grading Report Anatomy, which helps you better understand what can be a very confusing diamond grading system.

Already got the rock on your finger? Just download the app, and you can trace your stone back to the dealer and confirm that it's the real deal.

GIA 4C's available at iTunes.
