Kimberly S. Reed

As the economy continues on its turbulent path, CEO builder Kimberly S. Reed is readying a new crop of entrepreneurs for their turn as gamechangers. With almost 15 years experience in professional and executive development, the managing partner of the Reed Development Group, LLC has worked with Fortune 500 companies and top universities, and is an international speaker and lecturer whose passion has earned her a reputation for delivering results for her clients.

Reed shares with UPTOWN her advice for making the switch from employee to entrepreneur, but first, tells US about some of her off-the-cuff faves.

REFLECTIONS: Hometown: Windsor, Conn. * Age : 39 * First job: Right after undergraduate school, I worked at Scientific Staffing Company. * Advice she would have given herself 10 years ago: Have fun along the way to success. You MUST take time for YOU while working to achieve your goals and YOUR definition of success, not anyone else's for you. * Most valuable business lesson learned: Integrity is the DNA of character that runs through the veins and core of who we are. * Your mantra: “Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.”

DIVERSIONS: Currently reading: Black Woman Redefined by Sophia A. Nelson * Planning to read next: For another perceptive of the definition of success, I will be reading Think and Grow Rich, A Black Choice by Dennis Kimbro and Napoleon Hill. * Recently discovered: I love the show on Bloomberg TV called The Mentor. It is the best show for entrepreneurs to watch. I watch all the marathons, I learn so much!

PLAYING FAVORITES: Hotel: Ritz Carlton, any location. * Getaway: The AtlantisBrunch spot + dish: Sabrina's - Blueberry Pancakes. * Dining Spot to Impress Clients: R2L. * Most Beloved Pair of Shoes: After eight years and three heel repairs, I had to have a funeral for my black Fendi pumps. My favorite of all time. Up side? I’m hooked on Walter Steiger shoes now! * Spa: I love Toppers in New Jersey.
