Happy 100th Romare Bearden
Romare Bearden, the Charlotte-born artist heralded as one of this nation’s greats, is having a birthday fete at Macy's - and you're invited.
In conjunction with the Romare Bearden Foundation, Macy's celebrates the artist's 100th birthday this Black History Month. On February 9, 15 and 16, several Macy's locations will host Romare Bearden centennial receptions that include music, food and live music as well as an exhibit of Bearden’s work. Attendees also receive 15 percent off a community shopping pass, a $10 Macy’s gift card plus those who make a purchase of $50 or more receive a printed scarf featuring Bearden's celebrated piece The Lamp.
If that weren’t enough, from February 2-23, Macy’s shoppers at select stores can enter to win a 2-day trip to Paris (the city that inspired Bearden’s Paris Blues Revisited) and a $500 Macy’s shopping spree.
Other events scheduled throughout February include special readings of Bearden’s children’s book, Li’l Dan, The Drummer Boy: A Civil War Story, plus cooking demonstrations featuring his favorite dishes from the cookbook he illustrated, Ma Chance’s French Caribbean Creole Cooking. Select Macy’s locations, including Herald Square (NYC), Baldwin Hills (L.A.), State Street (Chicago), Center City (Philadelphia) and Metro Center (D.C.), have window displays of Bearden’s work.
