Chocolate Therapy

Decadent winter skin treatments courtesy of the cocoa bean

Nobody was more thrilled than us when the medical community began to tout the health benefits of chocolate.

The only problem was that if we ate as much as we'd like to achieve those benefits, well, let's just say we'd probably be better suited for a job as an Oompa Loompa in Willie Wonka's chocolate factory than sharing these tips with you.

Fortunately, we’ve discovered a few other ways that chocolate can be used as a remedy, without ingesting it. Here are a few spas that use our cocoa temptor to replenish and protect our most important asset--our skin.

New York, NY

Chocolate Brazilian Wax: Confidence Beauty Salon & Spa

According to some, chocolate should be your only choice when it comes to waxing the most sensitive areas of your body, as it's been proven to be the perfect product for those with sensitive skin. Unlike traditional waxes, cocoa wax doesn’t stick to your skin, cause ingrown hairs, or bring about the familiar post-wax stubble itch. It’s great for both sexes and can be used on other areas of your body. The only downside is that we’ll never know if it tastes as good as it smells.  www.confidencebeautysalon.com, 297 3rd Ave., 2nd Fl., 212.213.8220.

Hershey, PA

Chocolate Fondue Body Wrap: The Spa at The Hotel Hershey

Located about 80 miles outside of Philadelphia in a town dubbed “the sweetest place on Earth,” The Spa at The Hotel Hershey is literally one of the only places you can go to get this treatment. First, your body is wrapped in the spa’s own formula of warm moor mud and cocoa, followed by a body brushing and fondue application. A warm blanket then seals in the mixture so that it nourishes the skin and relaxes the body. Finally, a Vichy shower rinse provides the nightcap. If your craving for chocolate hasn’t been fulfilled, make sure you try the cocoa mani and pedi before heading back to your room for the night. www.chocolatespa.com, 100 Hotel Rd., 717.520.5888.

Chicago, IL

Chocolate & Pomegranate Facial: Chocolate For Your Body Spa

Chocolate for Your Body spa is a top destination for local chocolate lovers who want to get pampered while also dining on a sweet treat. One of the standouts on the menu is the hydrating and anti-aging chocolate and pomegranate facial. Combined, the two flavors come together to form a great anti-oxidant remedy for Chicago’s harsh wintry weather. A collagen eye mask repairs connective tissue and stimulates cellular renewal while reducing wrinkles and lines. You'll want call on them the next time that strong Chi-town wind whips across your face. www.chocolateforyourbody.com ,  1743 S. Halsted St., 312.226.0777.
