Common Knowledge

With his first adult tome, "One Day It’ll All Make Sense" (Simon & Schuster), Common gives a behind-the-curtain look at his life. (In 2006, he wrote the children’s book "I Like You, But I Love Me" [Hip Hop Schoolhouse].) The memoir explains his path from Chicago’s native son to superstar entertainer. His mother, Dr. Mahalia Ann Hines, tells intimate stories about Common and what she believes sets him apart from other artists in the pack.

In between, he shares the life lessons he’s learned from a multitude of friends, including Kanye West and the woman he calls his first love, Erykah Badu.

On sale September 13 at Amazon. $16.
