Flipping through design magazines a decade ago, Akiyo Ogura happened upon mehndi, the ancient Indian art form applied to brides before wedding ceremonies.

In 2009, Ogura launched her New York-based body-art design company, Akiyo Henna.

The “Luxe Glow” treatment involves intricate patterns swirled in luminous metallic colors and dotted with Swarovski crystals—the perfect pop of pretty for anyone who likes to flaunt sparkly body art. “The designs are delicate and feminine,” Ogura promises. “Chic and luxurious.”
