Twin Causes
Tom’s Shoes and Mary-Kate & Ashley’s The Row collab for children
Talk about walking a mile. After a 2006 trip to Argentina, American traveler Blake Mycoskie found that many of the children there were without shoes. But instead of just lamenting the situation, Mycoskie created the Tom’s Shoes brand under the "One for One" slogan: for every pair sold, his company provides a child with a new pair of shoes.
The philosophy has helped make Tom’s a success. The other thing that has boosted the brand? The kicks are just so darned cute. Now, Tom’s just got a twin-sized enhancement by collaborating with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s luxury apparel line, The Row. Through Tom’s, the twins have reimagined the classic pair of Tom’s with fine cashmere, Italian wool, and leather for a limited-edition Fall/Winter 2011 line. The fabrics include solids, plaids, and herringbones in a neutral palette, making them just as sleek as they are comfortable.
As stylish as the line is, the philanthropic piece of the enterprise hasn't been lost on the twins. The Olsens accompanied Mycoskie on a trip to Honduras earlier this year for a shoe drop, giving away hundreds of pairs of shoes to children in need while visiting homes and connecting with families. Now that the line is available in select department stores, we can all help a child while indulging in a little retail therapy.
One small step for style, one giant leap for mankind.
