Stacey Ferguson

Stacey Ferguson (aka Justice Fergie) started out as a practicing lawyer but could never shake the longing for a career in media. She jumped into blogging in 2006 and remembers, "From there, it was a 100 percent grassroots and entrepreneurial effort that arose out of the desire to create a community for multicultural women in the social media space." Ferguson co-founded BeBlogalicious, an online destination for news, entertainment, and op-ed content for women of color, and just wrapped its signature conference, the much-buzzed-about Blogalicious Weekend 2011, in DC.

Ferguson says she's learned one key thing about building an online community by and for multicultural women: If you build it (properly), they will come. "What a cliche, but it proved to be true for us," she says. "The blogosphere was just waiting for an opportunity like ours."

Next up for Ferguson is the launch of Justice Fergie Lifestyle Media, an endeavor committed to helping women -- especially working mothers -- celebrate the everyday. Here, a look at few of her more varied interests.

REFLECTIONS: Hometown: Montreal, Quebec, Canada. * Age: 34 * Advice she would have given herself 10 years ago: You are not cut out for the rat race, honey. Consider that you will yearn to own your own time. Plan accordingly. * What keeps her up at night: When I have an unresolved conflict in my life. I hate those! * Most significant life lesson: People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person. * Words to live by: To whom much has been given, much is expected. Luke 12:48.

DIVERSIONS: Reading now: "The Happiness Project" by my new friend Gretchen Rubin. * Reading next: "Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later." (And no, I am not ashamed.) * Last fun purchase: A black-and-pink pleated shirtdress from ModCloth.com. Their pieces are so fun and unique. * Recently discovered: AngelList, an online community of startups and investors.

PLAYING FAVORITES: Hotel: The Montelucia Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz. My husband and I went there two Thanksgivings ago and I can still recall the luxuriousness of the property. * Getaway: Any Caribbean island! Although I was born and raised in Canada, my family is from the Caribbean. It's where I feel most at home. * Entree: Pineapple chicken, lobster with ginger and scallions, fried rice and spareribs from La Maison VIP in Montreal. Trust me on that. * Guilty pleasure: BravoTV. And Gummi candy. * Adult beverage: My preference is a martini with a sugared rim.  * More people should know about this -- beer: Shandy Carib (Ginger or Sorrel) from Jamaica. A Shandy is a beer mixed with a carbonated juice or ginger beer.
