Invisible Touch
Four new fragrances to add to your favorite fall looks
September always has us hailing the arrival of fall fashion and all the accessories that top off a great look: the perfect shoe, a sparkly bangle, a silky scarf. But this year we have our eyes--or should we say nose--on that all-important-yet-invisible accessory: fragrance. Nothing else finishes off a great ensemble quite like the perfect scent, which can make even a sweater and jeans feel extra special. Here, four knockout fragrances, ranging from colorful to sophisticated, from romantic to quirky, that add that special touch.
FOR WOMEN
Available at Neiman Marcus online, the name of Prada’s “Candy” may invoke thoughts of saccharine, but it artfully blends savory with sweet (a feminine approach if we ever heard one). This visionary scent introduces vanilla notes to musk and caramel essences. Retail, $80-$108.
An exclusive at Saks Fifth Ave, “Violet Blonde” is Tom Ford’s latest addition to his beauty line. Mixed with the plants of cedar, suede, vetiver, pink pepper, and Tuscan iris, the fragrance is big on sex appeal and romance, heralding new-era feminine glamour. Retail, $100-$145.
Topman's premiere fragrance collection launches September 22 at Selfridges London and pushes the boundaries for men still in the thick of the concrete jungle or living a life of leisure. Both cool and energetic, the signature scents are served up in a set of body washes, shampoo, and a deodorant. “16” features notes of musk and cedar wood with hints of amber and bergamot. “27” imbues musk with nutmeg, vetiver, and frankincense. Retail, $25-$40.
The always eccentric Jean-Paul Gaultier named this fragrance after the French onomatopoeia of a rooster’s cry, “Cock-a-doodle-do.” Coining itself as a male aphrodisiac and packaged in a bottle shaped like a man's head, the scent blends the aroma of fig leaves, patchouli, cedar, and vetiver. It just may have you crowing. Retail, $100-$150.
