Mexico’s Ultimate Art Collection

We like to think that our modest art collection is pretty decent. Between prints and a few originals, we've managed to do a nice job of transforming our space into our own personal gallery.

But while we’re proud of our little collection, it pales in comparison to that of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helu. His art collection is so extensive that he commissioned architect Fernando Romero to design Mexico’s most unique art museum, and then proceeded to fill the space with his personal collection.

Named after Helu's late wife, Soumaya Domit, The Museo Soumaya is a 150-foot-high aluminum structure boasting six floors of art from the 11th through the 20th century. The recently opened museum houses 66,000 pieces including paintings, sculptures, furniture, fashion, and coins from the likes of Da Vinci, Picasso, Dali, and Renoir. The Rodin collection--the second-largest in the world--takes up the entire sixth floor. The large stark white interior highlights each of these internationally significant pieces.
