KéAbnesh Zewdie, Miss Tourism Africa 2005, to launch
Travel Abyssinia

New York: -- KéAbnesh Zewdie, Miss Tourism Africa, will be your guide to travel to Ethiopia.

The history Ethiopians and African Americans share is unfortunately all too often forgotten,” says KéAbnesh. “This shared history needs to be addressed and gratified in order to solidify the links between African-Americans and Ethiopians in the Diaspora and at home.” KéAbnesh is confident that these historical ties will become the cornerstone of a dynamic platform that that will promote arts, culture and commerce for Abyssinia and Abyssinians around the world.
The links between Abyssinia and the United States’ African American population goes back to the early 20th century. On October 4, 1935, Mussolini’s army invaded Ethiopia, setting off the “Abyssinian War”, with the goal of colonizing Ethiopia. The African-American community and many volunteered to fight for the African kingdom. Herbert Julian, aka “The Black Eagle,” and Colonel John Robinson who both commanded Ethiopian Air Forces against the Italians with heroic movement for equality reinstated and preserved the dignity of all people of African heritage. Ethiopians have benefited greatly from the struggle and sacrifices of African Americans, both in Ethiopia and in the United States, where Ethiopian-Americans today participate in American society with dignity.
Zewdie says that Ethiopians hold the achievements of African Americans in great esteem. “ Indeed, all African nations are able to achieve a greater standing and pride as a result of the contributions of Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and many others, ” she adds.
Today Ethiopia is known as “Abyssinia”. Historically “Abyssinia” literally refers to the historic Ethiopian Empire that included Ethiopia, Eritrea and part of modern-day Somalia, Djibouti, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen and Saudi Arabia, at its zenith. As the “Cradle of Mankind”, Ethiopia is the oldest country and commonly is referred to as one of the starting points for human migration throughout the world. It is the only African nation that successfully resisted the scramble for Africa by colonial powers during the 19th century, remaining independent throughout its three thousand year history.

Carnival in Trinidad is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE experiences, and this article took me right back to my own experience. I wish I could have experienced Beyonce's performance firsthand. From the videos I've seen, it looked CRAZY. She definitely gets major points for Palancing.

Now, I might have to turn up the soca and reminisce. Thank you for this mental getaway!

Hi Travelistas! A couple of days ago, I checked out your video posts on Morocco. It just so happens that that night I went to a Moroccan music performance and was inspired to write my next blog post on the sounds and flavors of North Africa. Check it out - http://flavordiva.com

I also tell my readers about your site. Your recent posts are a great addition to what I'm sharing.
