Music producer L.A. Reid is firing back at allegations he fired a pregnant woman.
Reid, real name Antonio Reid, is being sued by Shola Smith-Kirnon, former employee of MyMuze Inc. and Thntck, LLC, for refusing to pay her overtime and firing her when she was seven months pregnant. Smith-Kirnon, who performed administrative duties, is also suing Darrin Jennings, the CEO of both MyMuze and Thntck for pregnancy discrimination. She is suing for an unspecified amount.
In May 2012, Smith-Kirnon was “informally transitioned” to Thntck, where she continued to receive a $2,000 monthly stipend, but claims she was never paid any overtime even though she worked more than 40 hours each week. In the court documents, Smith-Kirnon alleges that she failed to receive any compensation from September 2009-October 2011 aside from “some meals” and “nominal payments” for commuting purposes. She did not sign any tax information or new hire paperwork.
