No more Thin Mints for some pro-life groups. In Milwaukee, some anti-abortion groups are boycotting Girl Scout cookies due to what they believe is support of pro-choice organizations and politicians, including Democratic Texas state senator Wendy Davis.
Although the Girl Scouts Of America do not pick sides on political issues nor endorse any political candidates, some pro-life groups are of a different opinion. The orgs took offense to the Scouts’ various tweets and Facebook postings that linked to articles praising Davis, an avid pro-choice believer and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, another Democrat who supports abortion rights.
“It’s very clear that they are not citing any pro-life leaders with any praise, even though their official stand is they are not taking any position on abortion,” said John Pisciotta, director of Pro-Life Waco and organizer of the so-called Cookie-gate.
“Why link it? Why not just ask who inspired you this year?” said Ann Saladin, a conservative activist and former Girl Scout who lives in St. Louis. To stay completely neutral on the issue, pro-life supporters believe the organization shouldn’t link to any politician.
The boycott has caught steam as more supporters are banning the sweet snacks. Pro Wisconsin is also encouraging their members to boycott as well.
