Former NFL safety Darren Sharper was arrested Friday (Jan. 17) and charged with sexual assault in connection with two incidents with two different women, according to TMZ.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s website confirms the 38-year-old was released from jail on $200,000 bond just before midnight after being taken into custody at 3 p.m. PT. As the story goes, two separate women claim he raped them in Los Angeles hotel rooms– one in October 2013 and the other in January 2014.
The NFL Network, where Sharper was working as an analyst, released the following statement to ProFootballTalk.com:
“Darren has been suspended without pay until further notice, effective immediately. Regarding the charges, as a matter of policy, we don’t comment on pending legal action.”
Sharper, a five-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ, spent 14 seasons in the NFL playing with the Packers, Vikings and Saints.
His first court date is set for Feb. 14
