Social media can seriously boost a company’s sales and bring attention to a person or cause you may not have ever heard of.
When utilized correctly it can “make” you, or in the case of these nine social media “FAILS” of 2013, it can “break” you.
#1) December 1, 2013: The GOP sent out the following tweet alongside a picture of Rosa Parks:
Today we remember Rosa Parks’ bold stand and her role in ending racism. pic.twitter.com/uxIj1QmtkU
— RNC (@GOP) December 1, 2013
This tweet not only backfired against the already struggling GOP, but also inspired the hashtag #RacismEndedWhen (created by @feministajones), which sparked such gems as: “#RacismEndedWhen Birthers started asking for Sasha & Malia’s birth certificates. @Path2Enlightenment” Using an icon of the civil rights movement as a means of gaining respect for a party that continuously puts black people down as a means of building themselves up, made literally no sense. Not to mention the absurd caption they added to her picture. Really GOP? Rosa Parks ended racism? If she ended racism, why then do the members of your political party keep perpetuating it? I’m just wondering…I’ll wait for you to answer.
