A Trip to Bountiful is getting the small screen treatment with a new made-for-television film headed to Lifetime TV.
According to a notice posted on Backstage.com, producers are casting for the project that will feature Broadway stars Cicely Tyson and Vanessa Williams. There is no word if Cuba Gooding Jr., Condola Rashad, Adepero Oduye or Leon Anderson Brown will be cast in the television movie.
The story follows an elderly woman in 1940s Houston who is hell-bent on traveling back to her hometown of Bountiful, going against the wishes of her son and daughter-in-law. The show was extended twice as a result of its success on Broadway and scored Tyson a Tony Award for Best Actress in her lead role as Carrie Watts.
The film is expected to begin production this month in Atlanta.
