Last Thursday, Shabazz was beaten to death after allegedly refusing to pay a bar tab of $1,200.
Prosecutor Rodolfo Fernando Rios said David Hernandez Cruz and Manuel Alejandro Perez would be charged with aggravated robbery and homicide. Police are looking for two others who may have participated in the attack on Shabazz.
Shabazz had enjoyed a night of drinking with friend Miguel Suarez, who told the Associated Press last week that a fight broke out after the owner of Palace bar, in Garibaldi Plaza, ordered both men to pay a 15,000-peso bar tab. Suarez said he found Shabazz outside after the beating and took him to the hospital, where he died from injuries to his head, face, and torso.
Many bars in Garibaldi Plaza are known for over-charging customers, especially foreigners, usually under the guise that customers must pay for talking with female employees. Rios’ initial investigation found that Shabazz and Suarez were lured to Palace bar by two women.
Rios said Shabazz’s body hasn’t been claimed by relatives nor the U.S. Embassy and Mexican authorities were working on transporting the body back to the U.S.
