Netflix, Inc. has tapped the multi-hyphenate’s Flavor Unit Entertainment production company for an exclusive film licensing agreement, reports Deadline. The first-look deal will allow Netflix its pick of movies that will debut on the top-rated Internet television subscription service shortly after their theatrical release.
“Shakim [Compere] and I are thrilled to do business with Netflix,” Latifah said in a statement Tuesday. “Netflix is such a strong brand and the perfect place to showcase our projects.”
Flavor Unit is responsible for box office hits such as Bringing Down the House and Beauty Shop, as well as Lifetime’s Steel Magnolias. In Spring 2013, Netflix will provide the upcoming thriller House of Bodies (Terrence Howard, Peter Fonda) and Percentage (Ving Rhames, Cam’ron and Macy Gray).
“We are delighted to work with Queen Latifah to be the exclusive destination for what are sure to be relevant, entertaining movies,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix. “Queen Latifah has a long track record of creating hits and Flavor Unit Entertainment is a fresh and exciting voice in the industry.”
