Check out the latest happenings around the music world…
- Obviously, everyone can’t take a joke. Outkast’s Big Boi found himself steering away from promoting his third solo album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors (Dec. 11) to address the growing “beef” between him and fellow group member Andre 3000. In reference to not having Andre on his upcoming project, Big Boi said five songs were presented but Andre was too busy doing “some Gillette shit” to complete them. What should have been taken as humor was quickly blown up to reports of hip-hop’s legendary duo at odds. Big Boi took to Twitter on Wednesday to state, “The Gillete Statement was me being Sarcastic, man y’all slow as hell, No Beef between me and Stacks. No More Outkast ?’s will be answered.” In a recent interview, Andre expressed his thoughts on a new Outkast album and made it clear that he’s in no rush. “Some days I feel like I’ll do it, some days I don’t. Some days I feel like I don’t need to, some days I feel like I want to do it before I die. So, I don’t know where to fall. I am just hoping one day I get that inspiration.” In time people, in time.
- Kanye West is doing his part to help Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by performing at “12.12.12,” a benefit concert to provide money and materials to tri-state organizations helping those affected by the disaster. The “Theraflu” rapper will be joined by Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, The Who, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters and Jon Bon Jovi. The concert will take place at New York‘s Madison Square Garden on Dec. 12 and is set to broadcast but details have yet to be announced.
- Keri Hilson is the latest entertainer to sign with Wilhelmina Models’ Artist Management Division. The impressive deal will explore and develop fashion and beauty endorsements, editorial, and licensing opportunities for Hilson, as it does for artists such as Fergie, Natasha Beddingfield, Iggy Azalea and the newly-signed Chris Brown. Hilson is currently working on her third album.
- And finally, congratulations are in order for Ne-Yo! The singer’s fifth studio album R.E.D. took the No. 4 spot on the Billboard 200 chart (No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart) after its debut last week. Led by the singles “Lazy Love” and “”Let Me Love You,” the album sold 66,000 copies in its first week. Although this has been Ne-Yo’s poorest debut, he doesn’t look at it that way. “Some may see failure in this. I don’t,” he wrote to fans. “I see that I now have 5 top 10 albums, I see that 66,000 people cared enough to drop everything and go get it first week, I see the great reviews the album is getting from critics and fans alike. Where some may choose to see failure, I choose to see more reasons to be grateful. Thank you.” Ne-Yo dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week to perform his newest single “Don’t Make ‘Em Like You.” Check it out below!
