In addition to ripping the stage at Super Bowl XLVII, HBO has announced the details behind the Grammy Award winner’s intimate documentary premiering nearly two weeks later. Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, says the feature-length film will capture all sides of the music icon.
“Everybody knows Beyonce’s music, but few know Beyonce the person,” Lombardo said. “Along with electrifying footage of Beyonce onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”
The documentary is said to “[strip] away the veneer of stardom” with first-person footage shot by the “Crazy In Love” singer from her laptop. The film will follow her electrifying performances, business ventures, the realities of celebrity and, of course, the joy of becoming a new mother.
“HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” Beyonce, the film’s executive producer, said in a statement. “Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home.”
The yet-to-be-titled documentary will premiere Feb. 16.
