On Tuesday’s episode of Hard Knocks, which follows the ins and outs of the Miami Dolphins organization, camera were rolling as Coach Joe Philbin served the former wide receiver his walking papers.
According to Philbin, Johnson’s recent domestic dispute with estranged wife Evelyn Lozada was the last stunt in a series of poor decisions made by the NFL star since joining the team in June 2012. From tweeting inappropriate comments to going “off on a tirade” during a press conference, it was clear to Philbin that he had to drop the dead weight.
“I don’t know if this is working for the benefit of you, me, the Miami Dolphins or anybody else. I think you are a good person and I acknowledge people make mistakes,” he said. “[…] Where we are as a program, and where we are headed, I just don’t see the mesh right now.”
In a statement released Tuesday, Johnson apologized to Lozada, his fans and supporters but said he would “continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL.”
On Lozada’s side of town, the official 911 call made after the incident has been released which captures the voice of a neighbor housing the Basketball Wives star until police arrived at the scene.
“I have somebody here at my house that was in a little domestic dispute with their husband, and I think we need to have a police officer come here and talk to her … It’s my next door neighbor, and this is his wife … I think it was just a misunderstanding but we’re worried he’s going to get upset … she probably is going to need stitches … let’s not make a big scene, if we can.”
After just six weeks of marriage, Lozada filed for divorce on Tuesday claiming their relationship is “irretrievably broken.”
