The Law of Detachment states in order to utilize the concept of attraction, you must be detached to the outcome.
Sounds a bit like an oxymoron, right? I want something, but in order to get it, I have to let go of any attachments to what I might get. Although the logic might seem far fetched, the results are spot on.
This concept has been showing up in my life daily. The random thoughts that go though my mind, bereft of attachment, seem to manifest almost instantaneously. For example, I was driving to the store and I thought about a tweezer. As soon as I stepped out of the car, there was a tweezer wedged in a crack in the parking lot. Coincidence? Perhaps, but these types of experiences kept repeating in my reality. This had been happening so often, that I decided to consult with my colleagues. I was not the only one experiencing this concept.
Why, then, were so many of my goals not being manifested? We came to the realization that I had attachments to how I wanted my goals to show up in the world. Many spiritual teachers speak of this concept. Deepak Chopra best describes it in his book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success:
“This law says that in order to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it. This doesn’t mean you give up the intention to create your desire. You give up your attachment to the result. This is a very powerful thing to do. The moment you relinquish your attachment to the result, combining one-pointed intention with detachment at the same time, you will have that which you desire. Anything you want can be acquired through detachment, because detachment is based on the unquestioning belief in the power of your true Self. Attachment comes from poverty consciousness, because attachment is always to symbols. Detachment is synonymous with wealth consciousness, because with detachment there is freedom to create. True wealth consciousness is the ability to have anything you want, anytime you want, and with least effort. To be grounded in this experience you have to be grounded in the wisdom of uncertainty. In this uncertainty you will find the freedom to create anything you want.”
