The famed director opted for Smith during casting, but couldn’t quite win over the blockbuster actor due to conflicting schedules.
In the latest issue of Empire, Smith said:
“I came really close, it was one of the most amazing screenplays I had ever ever seen… I was in the middle of ‘Men In Black 3′ and [Tarantino] was ready to go, and I just couldn’t sit with him and get through the issues, so I didn’t want to hold him up. That thing’s going to be ridiculous. It is a genius screenplay.”
While Men In Black 3 is holding its own at the box office– $135.9 million in three weeks, to be exact– it would have been interesting to see Smith in the rough-and-tumble role.
C’est la vie.
