3. “I don’t want to hurt you.” On Monday mornings, I don’t want to go to work. But that doesn’t mean I’m not. Just because a man says he doesn’t want to hurt you, it doesn’t mean he’s not hurting you. Nor does this mean he will stop doing the things that hurt you. So the next time he says, “I don’t want to hurt you,” calmly tell him he is and then clearly identify what hurts and outline what will happen if it continues.
