Family and friends of Rodney King will lay him to rest Saturday after scrambling to cover the funeral costs. On Monday, a family representative told TMZ they needed more that $22,000 and had established a memorial fund for supporters.
The representative now says the bulk of the funeral cost have been met and any extra money the fund receives will be put toward the ceremony open to the public, reports The Huffington Post.
King’s funeral is set for Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Hall in Los Angeles, Calif. The venue is reportedly the same place where Michael Jackson, David Carradine and Don Cornelius‘ funerals were held.
Family and friends will be seated first and the public will be allowed to enter after; there will be standing room available. The burial will only be open to King’s family and friends.
King was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool at his Rialto, Calif. home on June 17. While the LA County Coroner’s office are still conducting a toxicology test, police are still treating his death as a drowning.
