Uptown Media Group has recently named Teri Johnson as International Travel Director. Johnson is renowned throughout the travel community as co-creator and host of Travelista TV. She has traveled to nearly 50 countries and speaks Spanish, French, and conversational Italian.
In addition to maintaining her position as executive producer of Travelista TV, Johnson will execute the ad sales strategy for Uptown in the Caribbean, Central and South America regions.
“Teri is a uniquely talented and much celebrated travel expert who brings a wealth of experience and success to Uptown; and will serve us well in our ongoing efforts to grow the increasingly important travel category,” said Henry Watkins, Uptown’s Publisher. “Teri’s expertise in video production will add a distinctive element to our 360-degree multiple platform program offering to travel destinations, hoteliers and cruise lines.”
Johnson comes from a family of world travelers and began globetrotting at the young age of 12. She has lived in France, Spain, Italy and Brazil to work, study and record her journeys. Travelista TV evolved from her passion for global travel, storytelling and her love for connecting with different cultures from around the world.
On the show, Johnson plays the role of the “Free Spirit,” while her partner Andrea is the “Cultural Enthusiast.” As a free spirit, she is a true adventure seeker and has hunted with the Kuku-Yalanji aborigines in Australia, trekked through the mystical Dogon country in Mali, canoed with the Emberá Indians in Panama, and spent time in the favelas of Rio to learn samba.
In 2010, Johnson licensed the Travelista brand to BET for an original web series entitled “Travelistas Inspired Journeys”, sponsored by Ford. This year, Travelista TV journeyed to the Sundance Film Festival where they secured a webisode and broadcast deal with TV One.
