Everyone knows Prince Rogers Nelson’s name, but there was a time when no one could even pronounce it because it was a symbol. In 1993, he changed his name to [symbol] to free himself from “all desirable relationships” after a contractual dispute over the use of his name with his longtime record label, Warner Bros. Since no one could pronounce the symbol’s name, he became “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.” Finally, in 2000, the Purple One changed his name back to Prince after his contract with Warner Bros expired. Then the world could breathe again.
