The Foundation For African Relief (FAR), a nonprofit dedicated to reducing the burden of disease and poverty in Africa, is gearing up for their 10th anniversary fund raising gala. The funds they raise on October 23 will help the Boston-based organization create more of their specialized mobile clinics in Ghana, West Africa.
For each mobile clinic, FAR collects medical supplies along with volunteer doctors, nurses, HIV/AIDS counselors, translators and administrative staff to travel to Ghana. Once the volunteers and supplies have arrived, a temporary medical facility is set up to serve the indigenous public without any cost. During each trip, FAR’s mobile clinics serve an incredible five hundred patients a day for as long as the clinic can operate. This year FAR hopes to raise $30,000 to continue their efforts in Africa.
